Did you know that more than half of the garbage in our landfill is recyclable?
The St. Croix Recycling Association (STXRA) is a volunteer grassroots organization comprised of individuals, businesses, government agencies, non-government agencies, organizations and clubs; created in February 2007 through a project measure enacted by the Virgin Islands Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc. (V.I. RC&D).
Our Vision: All residents and visitors are engaged in waste reduction practices by supporting and participating in recycling programs throughout the territory.
Our Mission: To establish a thriving community of recyclers dedicated to conserving resources through the implementation of comprehensive programs that result in waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
Our Purpose/Activities:
Network: Provide members with contacts, research and up to date information. Support existing businesses and start-ups.
Advocate: Support legislation that affects solid waste policies and advances waste reduction practices.
Educate: Implement projects and workshops that generate awareness of and commitment to recycling.
PLEASE NOTE: The August 5 meeting will be held at the Florence Williams Library 2nd Floor Conference Room in Christiansted!
St. Croix Recycling Association meetings (see meeting flyer) are held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ricardo Richards Elementary School Auditorium in Barren Spot, just west of Sunny Isles, on the first Tuesday of every month.
At the September meeting, we will discuss our membership drive, the condo can recycling campaign, fund-raising, promotion & marketing, FreeCycle, and upcoming activities (click here for agenda).

EPA Region 2 Recycle on the Go Program: an EPA initiative to encourage recycling in public places such as parks,
stadiums, convention centers, airports and other transportation hubs, shopping
centers, and at special events.
The Christiansted Freecycle™ group is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself! Nonprofit groups are also welcome to participate too!
One main rule: everything posted must be free. This group is part of The Freecycle Network, a nonprofit organization and a movement of people interested in keeping good stuff out of landfills. Check out freecycle.org for other cities and info on the movement! E-mail Christianstedfreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com for questions or improvement ideas!
Changing the world one gift at a time.
Come and have fun and jump right in!
